The total growth period of the dog as a species (Canis lupus familiaris) depends on the breed. The larger the breed of dog, the longer the growth period takes. The smallest breeds are the fastest to grow up, with small dogs reaching their target height at six months. Medium-sized breeds grow up to about a year and the largest breeds grow up to a year and a half.
Black Russian Terrier grows up to 15-18 months of age, but the most intensive growth lasts till 9 months of age and then it gradually slows down. After reaching the target growth, which is about a year and a half, the Black Russian Terrier starts to grow in width. In case of bitches, the growth often slows down after the first heat.
The Black Russian Terrier reaches its target weight at 24-36 months of age.
